Double Zip Pouch Tutorial

 Use 2 x 20cm zips. In the following pictures, I actually used a green zip that was 28cm long because I felt the color was more appropriate. So I went ahead and used it, but had to trim off the excess after the side seams were completed.

 1. Mark a line 5cm from the top of Fabric B, place the side zip right side facing down, with the bottom edge aligned to the 5cm mark. Pin the bottom edge side of the zip down onto the fabric.

 2. Sew the bottom pinned edge of the zip to Fabric B as shown in the diagram.

 3. AFter sewing, fold the bottom edge of Fabric B up towards ihe top. Align the bottom edge of Fabric B to the top edge of the zip.

 4. Pin down the bottom of edge of Fabric B to the fop edge of the zip. The right side of Fabric B should facing the wrong side of the zip.

 5. Turn the piece around so that the zip is on the right side. Fold and pin back the top flap away from the pinned edge to prevent it getting in the way of sewing.

 6. Sew down the zip 0.5cm away from the edge of the zip.

 7 After sewing, place it with the side zip facing up (as above}. Prepare Fabric A.

 8. Flip Fabric A around so that the wrong side is facing up. Align the top edge of Fabric A to the top edge of the side zip. Along the same edge that we were sewing in step 6.

 9. Flip the piece around so that Fabric A is now Facing up, and you can see the seam sewn in Step 6 along the pinned edge. Sewn along the same line to attach Fabric A to the zip but with a 0.8cm seam allowance this time.

 10. After attaching Fabric A to ihe zip, you should have something like this. Remove the clips and flip it around so that ihe right sides of the rwo fabrics are Facing up. Prepare the top zip.

 11. Flip the top zip over so that the right side of the zip is facing the right side of Fabric B. Align the fop edges of the top zip and Fabric B. Pin in place.

 12. Sew 0.5cm From the edge.

 13. What you should have at this point. I unzipped the top zip to make it easier for sewing in the next step, but this is not really necessary. Get ready Fabric C (lining).

 14. Flip Fabric C (lining) over so that the right side is facing the right sides of Fabrics A and B. Take the top edge of Fabric C (lining) and align it to the top edge of the zip. This is the same edge that we just sewed in Step 12.

 15. Pin in place and Flip the piece around so that you can see the seam From step 12. At this point /our Fabric B (ws) should be Facing up.

 16. Sew 0.8cm along the pinned edge.

 17. After sewing, this is what you should have when wrong side of Fabric C is facing up. Now flip Fabric C over so that the right side is facing up.

 18. Notice one side of the top zip is now sandwiched between Fabric B and Fabric C.

 19. Now flip the Fabric C (lining] to the back so that the unsewn edge of ihe top zip is at the top.

 20. Unsewn edge oF top zip is ot the top with the rest oF the fobric layers below it.

 21. Fold up Fabric A layer so that the bottom edge is aligned to the top unsewn edge of the top zip. The right side of Fabric A should be facing right side of top zip.

 22. Pin in top edge in place. This is what you should have right now.

 23. Rotate the piece so that the top pinned edge is to the right and ready for sewing.

 24. Sew with a 0.5cm seam allowance from the edge of the zip.

 25. After sewing, foldover the unsewn edge of Fabric C so that the edge is aligned with the edge of the top zip.

 26. Align the edge to the top, pin in place.

 27. Flip to the back and you can see the seam sewn in step 24.

 28. Sew 0.8cm along the pinned edge.

 29. Now all the zip edges are sewn. This is whal you should have. Arrange the Fabric pieces so that Fabrics A and B are on one side, and Fabric C (lining) is on the other.

 30. Before pinning the side seams, make sure the top zip is opened fully. Along one side seam, pin along the entire length.

 31. Along the other side, pin along the side seam, leaving a gap on the lining side. This will be used For turning out the pouch later on.

 32. Now sew along the side seams with a 1 cm seom allowance. Remember to leave a gap for turning out as marked in step 31. Also, when you get to the middle of the pouch where the zip is, push all the seams towards the lining side.

 33. Now, turn out the pouch right side out through the gap. Push out the corners to check your stitching along all seams and zips. If everything looks good, hand stikh the gap shut.

 34. And there you have it. A double zip pouch!
